Modern Print Target Shooting Club Makes It To The Sport Wales National Coaching Finals!

The Pembroke Dock based Modern Print Inclusive Target Shooting club, was at the national coaching awards final in Cardiff, on 24th November. Club member Mr Ron Hovel was the only coach from Pembrokeshire in any sport to make it to this prestigious event, at Sophia Gardens. He was accompanied by the clubs co-founder and sponsor, Modern Print Managing Partner, Trevor Collins.

Ron was a finalist in the ‘Coach to Disabled Sports People’ category along with two others. This was for his work teaching air rifle target shooting. He was delighted to be the runner up on the day though, because the winner of this category Mr Peter Pearse, went on to be crowned overall winner – the Welsh Sports Coach of The Year. Peter who is himself severely disabled coaches Boccia. He had to fight off stiff competition from professional coaches with international reputations, to win this prestigious title.

The event was hosted by BBC presenter Gareth Lewis and covered by BBC wales Television. Gareth spoke about the importance of sport to Wales and how it ‘punched above its weight’ at international sporting event. This was followed by Mr Alun Ffred Jones AM, Minister for Heritage. He explained that volunteer coaches not only help in their particular sport, but also fulfill a social role in the community as well. This was very apt given the work of Ron with disable people at Modern Print Inclusive Target Shooting club.

If you would like to learn more about the club or how to join please call Trevor Collins at his office on 01646 682676.
