What is the Difference between DL and 1/3 A4 size

DL is a specific size used for envelopes and not leaflets. It is 220mm x 110mm. What some printers and designers nearly always mean when they say DL is actually 1/3 A4, which is 210mm x 99mm. So please call today on 01646 682676 for help with your leaflet and envelope printing from printers who will always give you accurate information.

Think about it logically; how could you put a DL size leaflet into an envelope or leaflet dispenser that’s the exact same size? There would be no space around the edges, so it would not fit inside.

Alternatively look at the size of a 1/3 A4 leaflet, it is 99mm x 210mm which is exactly one third of an A4 sheet of paper; there is no need to give it another name.
.
The confusion for this has come about in recent years because more and more people selling print have no experience of how to produce it.  Most of them have never seen a proper litho offset printing press or learnt from the people operating them.
.
At Modern Print & Design we still have machine minders operating printing presses on the premises. All of our designers know how stock is bought from the paper merchants and to cut it for minimum waste. That is why the standard sizes of A7, A6, 1/3 A4, A5, 2/3 A4, A4, A3 and A2 are used. It is a much more economic size to print than DL which is very wasteful.
.
Next time you see DL used as a size, check that is is not actually 1/3 A4.
